The vaccines (both inactivated and live attenuated type) of influenza (including swine flu) generally have to be given every year to get full protection. The vaccines are not recommended to all the individuals and only selected individuals should be vaccinated yearly. If you fall in the group mentioned below, you should get flu vaccine shot.
The annual vaccine of influenza is recommended among the following individuals:
- Children of 6 months up to 5 years of age.
- Individuals of more than 50 years of age (but live attenuated vaccine is recommended in persons of 5 years to 50 years of age only).
- Individuals of 6 months to 18 years of age who are receiving long term aspirin (for any cause) as they are at high risk of developing Reye’s syndrome if they contract influenza.
- Health care workers (doctors, nurses, paramedical staffs and other health care related) who are at high risk of contracting swine flu due to professional contacts. Read more…

You want to burn calories and lose weight, but don’t want to work out any more than you have to, right? Then High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) might be a good option for you! This type of workout is an enhanced form of interval training and will help take your fitness regimen to a new level without spending load of extra time. The secret to this type of training is the combination of maximum intensity exercise interspersed with longer periods of low to moderate exercise. Imagine pushing yourself beyond the very max of your exercise zone for a short time, then keeping up your heart rate by doing a lighter bit of exercise.
The beauty of HIIT is that it can help increase the amount of calories that you burn because it lengthens the amount of time that it takes for your body to recuperate after working out. It also helps improve your endurance and increases your potential to burn more fat. The most effective part of HIIT is that it makes you push yourself to the complete max for a short time, rather than keeping your heart rate up for a longer period of time. For example, when you first start out running, run as fast as you can for one minute, then walk for two minutes. Repeat this interval five times for a 15 minute workout. In these short 15 minutes, you are beginning to blast away fat. Because this workout is very intense, you should be sure to gradually build up your strength so you don’t injure yourself or damage your muscles. Read more…

Let’s discuss about some of the unconventional and conventional but not commonly practiced health tips are dealt to remain fit and healthy and enjoy the fruits of good life. Many people are aware of many of the tips here, but if you are reading this article you should give a thought and ponder about the applicability of the health tips discussed here and I assure you that there will be dramatic change in your health as well as the way you look into life as a whole.
Brisk walking is the best exercise to remain fit. You may think running is better, but my opinion is walking as you can continue it lifelong (running you can not continue when you grow old). It can be easily said that running can keep you fit but so can walking of about 30 minutes to one hour a day. Moreover you can keep walking for longer duration. For example drug “A” is better than drub “B” for treatment of a particular disease, but with drug “A”, compliance is not good and with drug “B”, compliance is good. So here drug “B” should be prescribed by the doctor in general (drug “A” can be prescribed to a patient who is highly motivated and will take it despite difficulties). In this case also if a person is highly motivated for regular exercise than he/she should choose running instead of walking to remain fit. Read more…

The answer to the above question is and affirmative “yes”, although there may be much opinion to the above question. But my personal belief is to drink tea regularly, especially green tea, which has enormous health benefits. There are several ingredients in tea which may not have been studied yet appropriately, which may also have beneficial effects (as well as harmful effect).
The answer of the above question is answered, but how much tea should a person drink a day to get the maximum health benefits of tea? In my opinion (which is opinion of majority of authorities and scientists and nutritionists) one should drink 4-6 cups (approximately 180-200 ml per cup) of tea everyday. Drinking 4-6 cups of tea can reduce incidence of cancers such as stomach cancer, esophageal cancer, skin cancer etc. To get the health benefits of green tea drinking tea on a regular basis is important, instead of drinking large amount of tea in a short time. There are enormous health benefits of tea, especially green tea, and the anti-cancer and anti-diabetic health benefits of tea are discussed here.
Several studies suggest that tea; especially green tea can protect us from certain cancers such as breast cancer, lung cancer, skin cancers and prostate cancer. A study in Japan found that the antioxidants such as epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG present in tea are the reason for protection from cancer. The study found that two to three cups of green tea contain enough epigallocatechin gallate to help in prevent growth of lung cancer cells. The growth of lung cancer cells is slowed due to blocking of a receptor called 67 LR present in lung cancer cells by epigallocatechin gallate. Another study found that if a person drinks only a cup of green tea a day has five times less chance of developing lung cancer in compare to a person who do not drink green tea. Read more…
The green tea is special for many reasons. There are several ingredients in green tea which can not be found in ordinary tea which we commonly drink. There are several studies which were conducted on the health benefits of green tea and most of the studies have concluded with a positive note about the health benefits of green tea. Green tea was being used in China for last few thousand years for it benefits in almost anything from depression to sleeplessness.
Green tea is particularly rich in antioxidants and one of the richest sources of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which is a strong antioxidant. The powerful anti-oxidant EGCG have enormous health benefit by causing inhibition of cancer cell growth and in many cases it can even damage the cancer cells without causing any harm to the normal tissue. EGCG can also lower the level of bad cholesterol i.e. LDL or low density lipoprotein in blood, which is responsible for most of the cardiovascular problems which are associated with smoking and intake of high fat diet, especially saturated fats of animal origin. The high concentration of epigallocatechin gallate in green teal also prevents abnormal formation of blood clot which is responsible for the cardiovascular problems such as heart attack. Read more…
